"Intranets" and "Extranets" are in vogue. Call us!

Companies with multiple locations across the country...around the world...or even on the other side of town, are discovering the economies of offering employees and associates a private space online that is "theirs" — such as a company intranet. Or extranet.

In this online space, they can share ideas on a bulletin board, write about successes, connect with fellow employees, view photos from the office picnic or read the most recent company newsletter.

Anniversaries can be recognized. New employees introduced. Announcements made. Industry research and resources made available. Whatever communication needs to happen with the group of colleagues at work, you can use your private online intranet to build community within.

At KMI, we have been putting intranets and extranets together since 2002. If your company needs one, please give us a call.

Example of using an intranet wisely

One client is a national firm with seven locations across the United States and hundreds of employees. The firm specialized in projects of large scope that demand lots of planning and a sizable budget in the acquisition phase. Their extranet serves as a means to share ideas virtually so that employees across the miles know the types of projects they do best, who is who in the other offices, what people in the company are working on...and it also serves as a means to plan travel and report expenses. It's one spot where employees all can go.

Another example is a client with one location and employees continually out meeting with clients. They use their intranet to access important information in helping their clients as they are out and about.

There's so many things you can do!

Get Your Own Private Intranet or Extranet Online

KMI will work with you in creating your own company's private online space — your very own intranet, or extranet.

You may wonder, "What's the difference between an extranet and an intranet"? And "What the heck is a portal?"

First off, you can have them all.

A portal is simply your doorway — your point of entry (such as your web site) — to the Internet. And in your portal, you can have an intranet, which is a space off of your web site that is restricted to only those who have your permission (such as "user name" and "password") to enter (or, in technical lingo, "log in"). Many companies have intranets exclusively for their employees.

An extranet, technically, is quite the same as an intranet. It's the term used frequently when the "group with permission" are those who may not be in the same company, but are a "group" — like an association, or special interest, or club, or client group.
